DeWine's Lying Ad

Wed Oct 18, 2006 at 07:00:15 PM PDT

Mike DeWine is running a lying ad and now I've got that old Eagles song running through my mind...
Did she get tired or did she just get lazy?
she's so far gone she feels just like a fool
My, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things
You set it up so well, so carefully
Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things
You're still the same old girl fool you used to be
You can't hide your lyin eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes
Paulhina diaried this earlier tonight, but it looks like it scrolled off of the page & it's an important story.

DeWine has released an attack ad that accuses Brown of not paying unemployment taxes for the last 13 years. The real story is this.

In December 1993, Brown's house reelection campaign was issued a notice to pay unemployment taxes.  The Ohio Bureau of Employment Services confirmed payment in April 1994.
The problem appears to have been with the state's records. Here is a link to an image of the payment notice.

Remember that this is not the first dishonest ad DeWine has put up this season. Indeed,

The DeWine campaign already pulled down one advertisement when it was found that they had doctored footage of the burning Twin Towers.  This week, the Army found that another DeWine ad "is counter to Defense Department directives and army policy" because it features a soldier in uniform [Stars and Stripes 10/17/06]. DeWine previously accused Senator John Glenn, who served honorably in Korea, of being a Communist sympathizer. The DeWine campaign hired the same firm that created the Swift Boat attack ads against Senator Kerry in 2004 to produce its advertising.

If you see this ad being played on local tv, please call the station to report that it is dishonest and send them the link. Also, please be proactive and make sure friends, family, and neighbors know that the ad is misleading.

Go vote!

...that ends with a service member's mother saying that Brown should be ashamed of himself.

However, nowhere in the rest of the commercial do they present ANY reason he WOULD be ashamed!

It was sort of a dada, post-reality message, maybe aimed at those who sleep through commercials, waking up only at the very end.

I've seen part of that ad twice tonight. I never caught the beginning so it wasn't clear to me that she was a service member's mother--did she lose her child? It is the strangest ad. She says that DeWine was there for her family when he was needed and that Brown should be ashamed of himself because Ohio already has a Senator...very strange, poorly written, and low budget looking!

and from the swiftboat scam still applies:

don't let this go unanswered. local activists have got to be proactive and strike back hard and fast. Make the DeWine campaign apologize - don't count on Browns people to be able to pull off public outrage - it takes public to make public outrage.

unanswered smears stick, even when they are obvious lie. hit back hard and fast

My understanding is that lawyers are hard at work, but the RNC has refused to pull it so far, and until the lawyers and the public make clear than lying about a candidate is illegal (and until the tv stations hear that clearly) the ad is still up.

and he's always been a weasel. When he was running for Greene County prosecutor in the 70's, he was disciplined for false statements by the State's election commission.

In 1992, DeWine accused John Glenn of being soft on communism, the terrrorism of the time.

amongst many wretched DeWine memories, for some reason the one that sticks out for me is one of him being asked about his stance on abortion. He gave his little smirk and said, "Well, I think that's a decision that is best left up to states." It was just such a smarmy politicians answer. Honestly, have some cojones! If you believe it should be illegal, say so! But how in the hell does the invisible state line have anything in the world to do with my autonomy over my own medical decisions????

I've wondered, did the VoteVets ad ever show up against DeWine?  It's overdue.  He needs his whiney ass kicked for this, and that ad would do it fine.

It's just a thank you for the WCW poem, and some belated mojo in return. You must be unbelievably busy right now working to defeat DeWine. Just 17 days to go, then Senator Brown can start setting Ohio right. Good luck, Albatross, we're all rooting for you!

That's it. I've had it with these @%#& Republicans in the @%#& House and the @%#& Senate.
